Ben Garcia is Deputy Executive Director at the Ohio History Connection, a statewide history organization that manages 55 historic sites and museums, the state archives, the state heritage preservation office, and includes a program to document LGBTQ+ histories called the Gay Ohio History Initiative (GOHI).
He moved to Columbus with his husband, Scott Fabianek, in August 2019 from San Diego, CA. Prior museum experience includes tenures at the J. Paul Getty Museum and Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, the Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology at UC Berkeley, and the San Diego Museum of Man. He regularly presents and publishes on museums and social justice. His work in museums is centered on historically hidden histories and the repatriation of American Indian ancestor remains and belongings to descendant communities.
